Did you pull at Liverpool Pride? Are you too skint to take your new love out for a fabulous night on the town? Well fear not, Liverpool Pride has teamed up with Merseyside Dance Initiative and the Joel Hall Dancers to give you the chance to take your date... or just your mate for free to see these world class dancers on their only UK visit of 2010!

The Joel Hall Dancers, last seen in Liverpool over 20 years ago, will perform at Floral Pavilion, New Brighton on Tue 7 & Wed 8 September.

The Joel Hall Dancers are celebrated for their joyous blend of jazz, ballet, modern and “street” dance techniques. In their thirty six-year history as a professional Chicago-based dance ensemble, the company have performed all over the world, presenting works by Joel Hall and many nationally and internationally recognized choreographers, achieving a noted reputation as a quintessential American Contemporary Urban Jazz Ballet Company: sophisticated yet accessible. This spectacular performance from one of America’s top Jazz Dance companies promises to be the highlight of the second half of LEAP 2010 year of dance.

This world class performance will feature some of Joel Hall’s most exciting and memorable choreography including Compassion, a piece which was created in 1984 during the AIDS pandemic. The story follows a couple who come together to dance their life story at how beautiful life has been as then life is swept away from one and the other left to carry on feeling that true love will cross his path again. The company performed this piece 20 years ago in Liverpool and have decided to perform it for their returning performance, as the situation in the world has changed but not the Compassion.

The show will also feature breathtaking pieces such as the award winning ‘In the Shadow of Nina Simone,’ a tribute to the legendary performer and songwriter who was Nina Simone and ‘El Gato Negro’ featuring a house mix of music by artists such as CeCe Penniston, Zig Zag, Nightmares on Wax and Black Sheep.
