Liverpool Pride is launching Out & About – a film screening and education programme with supporting website - at New Brighton’s The Light Cinema on March 21st 2013. The first film Laurence Anyways - a brand new film release fresh from the London lesbian & Gay Film Festival.
The programme is aimed at Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people and their friends across Merseyside and Halton, bringing film screenings and education workshops to venues in local communities. The film programme will highlight the best in LGBT cinema including feature films, documentaries and classic movies and is funded by Creative England’s Film Culture Fund, with support from Unison North West and Barefoot Wine.
Joan Burnett of Liverpool Pride says:
“This is a brilliant opportunity for Liverpool Pride to collaborate with venues across the region and offer people interested in LGBT film a chance to see great movies on their own doorstep. I am so proud to be launching the programme in New Brighton as it’s my home town and The Light is an excellent cinema, where both the staff and facilities are amazing!”
Phil Dove, Manager of The Light says:
“This is a great opportunity to show the versatility of the digital format and for us to be a responsive community cinema. Allowing the audience to govern what they watch on our screens improves our portfolio tenfold. I’m very proud that we were given the opportunity to participate in Out & About. I’m certain that the high quality of the films available will make this project hugely rewarding for the cinema and the community at large”.
The workshop programme is a partnership with local company Thinking Film;
Director Danny Kilbride says:
“We’re keen to link up with people who want to know more about the hugely diverse range of excellent LGBT film available today. We’d like to get people thinking about the films they’d like to see and having a say in what happens in their local venue.”
The Light welcomes the launch of Out & About on Thursday March 21st, at 6.30pm. There will a Barefoot Wine reception in The Light bar followed by a screening of new film Laurence Anyways at 7.30pm.
